NW Jax: Still going well

without comments

I probably sound like a broken record, but I think it’s worth it to repeat that things are still going well here at the Riverview Community Center. In speaking with poll workers…they predict lines may once again form at around 4:30, 5pm. Remember…the only time there was a line, was right before polls opened.

As the day has progressed, I would say in the last hour, things have really slowed down. Up until now, the parking lot has been full…now there are plenty of spaces.

NW Jax: Smooth Sailing

without comments

We’ve been out here all morning, at the Riverview Community Center, and everything is going very well. The biggest rush was after polls opened…but now it’s starting to pick up. Everyone here has been so impressed with how quickly they’ve been able to get in and out. Should be interesting to see if another line forms at noon.

Election Day in Northwest Jax

without comments

We’re at the Riverview Community Center. Been here since 5:30….people began lining up at 545! We spoke to the first lady in line…she told us she didn’t have time to early-vote, so she just came early.

Steady traffic all day…no more lines now, but noon may be different though. Poll workers tell us they’ll be here ALL DAY long!!! And they’re volunteers. They expect a busy day, they’ve been here since about 6AM.

We’ll have some more interviews at noon…including some first-time voters!

Michelle Obama @ 11:15 am

without comments

Being told the motorcade just pulled in. His campaign tells us Michelle is not expected to take the stage until about noon, give or take, after some other speakers. As of now, we are NOT at capacity. The campaign tells us the goal is not to turn anyone away. People are still filling in, still some space available by the looks of it.

Michelle Obama @ 10:30

without comments

Doors have been open for about 30 minutes now…the crowd is growing quickly. Jared Halpern, with our news partner WOKV, was told by a fire marshal that the capacity for today’s event is 4000. Keep in mind, the room we are in has a big partition down the middle, so what you may be familiar with in the Prime Osborn isn’t being used to its fullest. No word if anyone will be turned away…we’ll find out!

On another note, I spoke with a few attendees about what they want to hear. They say they are tired of the so-called negative campaigning, and they want to hear about the issues, namely the economy.

More to come!

Michelle Obama @ 9:10 am

without comments

We’re at the Prime Osborn…doors don’t officially open to the public until 10am…and already, there is a line! From my vantage point, there looks to be a couple hundred people lining up. And, as you probably guessed, some “protesters”. I’ve spotted a man with a “No Obama, No Socialism”. More to come.

School-Related Races

without comments

Everyone is talking about the presidential race…and that’s very important…but there are many other important races out there that will effect your children! Starting today, I will be putting together a couple of stories having to do with your “school-related” races. Tonight, you’ll hear about the District 3 race for the Duval County School Board. You’ll also hear from the two men running for the Superintendent position in Clay County. As the election nears, we’ll talk to some other candidates. Be sure to tune in!
