UNF partisan bickering

I’m sure it’s like that at UF too. Even on Facebook right now, many of my friends — still in college — are bickering back and forth via facebook status and wall posts. Interesting stuff…

I sent the below e-mail to Alachua County Supervisors of Elections Office yesterday… In addition, my stepson had witnessed (prior to the election) that the Obama rallies were peaceful, and the McCain rally (one) was very vocally protested and picketed by the Obama supporters….
Good Morning!
On this Election Day, I understand that you are extremely busy and most likely will be for some time, so Thank YOU in advance for taking the time to read my e-mail.
This, however, is a situation that I do want to call your attention to for future reference and knowledge.
My stepson (who is back at UF at 28) was having dinner last night with us when the subject of voting came up.
He told me that in one of his classes some time back, that “a girl” was handing out Change Of Address forms for the students who were already registered to vote in their respective counties could make their residence change of address so they could vote in the upcoming elections. He said that he and quite a few classmates completed the forms and returned them to “the girl”, commenting that he and a buddy had checked the “republican” box as to party affiliation. Continuing on, he said that after the cards were collected, he noticed “the girl” and a friend going through the cards and reading them, sometimes making faces and giggling. (I don’t know so much about that, but those were his words, not mine).
He said that he waited for some time for a new voter registration card to come in the mail, but none ever was received. So he went to the Supervisor of Elections Office and found that his address had never been changed, or at least the Supervisor of Elections Office was never aware of the change. So accordingly, he made the proper changes, and told his buddy, who address was also never changed (republican affiliation also). He went on to state that he felt that if he’d registered democratic ticket, that the change might have made it to the office. (again, an opinion of his, not fact)
It is his responsibility, to see that he is properly registered, which he did, but what concerns me with this incident is that someone who is falsely representing, but not an official of the Elections Office is either allowed (somehow I doubt this), or charged with the responsibility of returning change of address forms to the Elections of Office of Alachua County.
I realize with extremely transient nature of the college students, its a pretty daunting task to keep up with what the young people do and where they go, but this could be of concern, especially if you have students show up at the polls today, thinking they have submitted name changes already.
Thank you for again for reading my e-mail, I thought this incident was at least worth reporting to you for future reference.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lea Ann Rogers
